This class is an excellent introduction to oil and cold wax techniques for beginners and an idea-filled review for students at any level. We’ll cover the use of oil and cold wax mixtures, acrylic water based paints, drawing and collage as base layers for oil and cold wax painting.
Students will work with additive and subtractive painting techniques using brayers, squeegees, palette knives and an assortment of brushes. We’ll also explore mixed media additions such as sand, marble dust, raw pigments and solvents.
Students will have opportunities to explore their surroundings with walks and field trips, drawing abstractly from nature and observing the effects of light and color. We’ll examine and discuss the work of other artists from both images and videos. This combination of materials, techniques and ideas combines to create an immersive art environment for learning skills and feeding creative inspiration.
