A unique opportunity to work at the prestigious Ballinglen Arts Foundation for a select group of  artists to spend nine days in rural Ireland drawing and painting with artist Randall Graham.
The workshop is intended for all levels, although some experience is desirable. Randall will provide individualized instruction and criticism. Plein air excursions and indoor studio demos, instruction, discussions, and presentations will provide the format for an immersive learning experience. The landscape and sea of this part of North Mayo create a magical environment to create deeper works of art.
Randall emphasizes the importance of composition and values. He will also help everyone simplify the endless beauty of the Irish landscape in order to enhance the poetic nature of painting. There will be ample opportunity to discuss and critique everyone’s work.
Randall typically works in oil. Occasionally gouache is helpful for quicker sketches.
The class will alternate between the studio and on-location. The emphasis will be outside but weather-dependent. The course is structured with some flexibility, and presented here is a general format.
