Opening event: Friday January 30, 2026. 5pm - 7pm
Sruthanna Comhcheangailte – The Fluidity of Interconnection is an inquisitive search for belonging, expressed through mixed media, stitching, poetry and collage. Energies we might wish to consider – in our troubled times – to help us reconnect and heal are investigated through abstract interpretations of the twenty-two Major Arcana cards of the Tarot. The work aims to act as a catalyst for dialogue and a joyful celebration of all life.
Artist Bio: Maria May -
May has made the West of Ireland her home. Growing up on a windswept Swedish island in the middle of the Baltic Sea, May felt a strong connection to the land and the elements from an early age. On moving to Ireland in 2004, this affection grew into an irresistible longing to explore interconnectedness. After bringing up a family, and caring for her daughter with Autism Spectrum Disorder, May returned to education in 2020. This move allowed her various interests to merge and expand into a multi-disciplinary art practice, spanning installation, live art, collage, film, and poetry. The practice - centred around layering repurposed and scavenged materials – is conducted through a holistic, ritualistic exploration, seeking to evoke transformative healing. By tentatively engaging with her surroundings, she weaves connections to the past, present and future.
May holds a First-Class BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art from ATU Sligo. She was long-listed for the RDS Visual Arts Award in 2023 & 2024 and was the winner of the 2024 Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Student Artist Award. May is currently undertaking an MA in Creative Practice at ATU Sligo.
