Ron Pokrasso covers a wide range of techniques in the monotype process and continues with chine collé/collage and drawing. Working with non-toxic Akua products the workshop focuses on the integration of multiple plates and numerous techniques to create richly layered compositions. Rather than trying to compose on just one surface you will learn how to think in layers where many options become available in one or more impressions. While a monotype plate is in progress you may decide to incorporate a background plate and perhaps a collage element or even a Solarplate image. By having numerous surfaces to work from, your options become endless and the mixing and matching of imagery has the potential to move you into very exciting new directions.
Participants of all levels of experience will be encouraged to embrace the notion of the "artist as an inventor,” with an open-ended approach leading to limitless opportunities. Akua inks and modifiers, solvents, paper towels, newsprint, adhesives, brayers, ink knives, and additional in studio supplies are all provided. Monotype plates are available in these sizes: 8x10, 11x14, 12x16, 14x17, and 16x20. Participants are encouraged to bring some of their own printmaking paper, however, Arches 88, the preferred, will be available for purchase. A suggested materials list will be sent as it gets closer.
An optional section on the use of Solarplate, intaglio printmaking will be presented. A few 8”x10” Solarplates will be available for purchase, however participants are encouraged, if interested and possible, to bring their own Solarplates. We are set up to expose up to 9”x12” Solarplates. You may choose to provide your own transparencies. Transparencies for 8”x10” images for this process may also be generated onsite.
With numerous demonstrations, the interspersing of art making philosophies, extended open studio time and highly recommended day trips this program is an intensive, information packed, enriching experience.
