The Exhibition will open with an artist talk on Friday May 5th at 5pm.
Ballinglen Fellow Rose de Groot will show paintings from series titled, Black Light, White Heat (2019), and Deluge (2022) made in North Mayo while on residency.
'The paintings are all made at the outcrop of Downpatrick Head along The Wild Atlantic Way. Working at this place, outside in nature, is a way for me to experience the world in all its visceral, sublime reality— and record it through the materiality of the paint.
Breathing in debut, the dark ocean and night sky.

Sublime, modulating, radiant, black liquid plane.
When struck by the sun, surfaces as green so effervescent, you can hear it fizz.
Oceanic spray, lit up white— it’s spill the color of thick cream when dropped onto sand.
Black water, black light. Energetic transference at a white heat. I am. Spewed out by the Beauty out there."
